Suffering from long weeks slaving at work, with no vacation in sight and a massive urge to break free? If so, then we highly recommend a proper night of absolutely filthy Drum & Bass hosted by the Prototypes.

Playing on the 10th of June for an absurd price of 5 EUR, this Brighton back-to-back team brought to you by Urban Kaos Promotions is a landmark event for the Funky Monkey and for the whole of Malta. DnB specialist Chris Garvey will make his way over to shatter eardrums and throw high speed BPMs at a DnB-hungry crowd. Playing for the second time on the island, his attendance confirms there is a growing dedication to the underground music scene in Malta.

Maltese and expatriate DnB fans will understand the importance of this event – the second arrival of the Prototypes on the shores of Malta means the scene is reaching a whole new level. Places like the Funky Monkey and the Zion Reggae bar that have access to outdoor spaces and room for bigger events are becoming more and more able to cater for big list names. For those living in Malta, we do not realize we are getting spoiled; more and more popular artists arriving every year, relatively low entrance fees and the weather to do this all outside, all summer long.

New to the Prototypes?

Pale Blue Dot, Cascade and Kill The Silence (ft. Ayah Marar) are good tracks to start with and from then on going through their mixes on Soundcloud and Youtube. They have had support from musicians such as Andy C, Knife Party, Zane Lowe, Afrojack, Annie Mac and Krewella and have also been invited to play live mixes at the BBC Radio 1 studios on several occasions. According to Breakbeat Magazine, Chris was influenced by the Fugees, Guns n’ Roses and Pantera while his partner Nick’s influence came more from 90’s hip-hop/gansta rap.

As part of the release party, Deejay Bee, EZC, Biggie and Scratch Master Twitch will also be playing in what be Urban Kaos’ biggest line up to date with musical genres spanning from classic and current DnB, Jump Up, and Reggae. In the words of the promoters, it is “a spectacular opportunity to skank without breaking the bank”.

Urban Kaos is one of the protectors of the DnB scene here in Malta and expect more coming from them soon!

The Prototypes hosted by Urban Kaos productions will be playing at the Funky Monkey in Gzira on June 10th from 8PM onwards.
