Finding the Perfect Smoke Spot Malta: Where to Light Up “Tobacco”

Visiting Malta? Finding yourself in unfamiliar territory? Now you’re suddenly faced with the challenge of figuring out the best smoke spot Malta has to offer.

You’re not alone and picking the right spot isn’t always straightforward — but when you do it right it can turn into a memorable, potentially unforgettable, experience.

This is where we step in. Believe us there are many sweet smoke spots in Malta waiting for you to pause, roll one up, and take in the vibe. Usually that perfect backdrop won’t simply present itself and you’ll need to put in a little effort to uncover your own smoke-friendly hideaway. But this time around you’re lucky, we’ve done the hard work for you.

Disclaimer: Weed is illegal in Malta for tourists and for those without a “Green Card” and yes smoking in public regardless is also illegal, you will be heavily fined if caught which will put a dent in your vacay budget, not to mention kill the positive vibes. So, smoke at your own risk or take our advice and just smoke “tobacco” at these spots.

Dingli Cliffs are a towering smoke spot Malta locals love

Dingli cliffs overlooking the sea on a clear day

If you’re after a dramatic yet peaceful setting, then the Dingli Cliffs should be at the top of your list. Not a bad way to catch the sunset before heading out to sample Malta’s full throttle nightlife too. Towering 250 meters above sea level and offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, Dingli is the right place to be to get a little bit high.

Pro Tip: Move your ass away from the main lookout points and get the urge to post on social media out of the way. Roll up, light up, and relax in the moment of vastness.

Għajn Tuffieħa Bay where surf meets smoke

Riviera Beach with a green hillside in the background with a blue sky

Of the two main beaches in this area, (the other being Golden Bay) Għajn Tuffieħa is the tranquil surfer’s paradise of Malta. Surrounded by rolling hills and natural beauty. Take a worthwhile trek down the long stairs and lay on the sandy beach.

It’s worth noting that pretty much all year round this beach, while relaxed, is mostly busy. Unless you head there during dusk/dawn hours. If packed below, our solution is simple. Head upwards to the top of the hill and look down and far out while being at peace.

Pro Tip: Grab some coffee, water and snacks from Coffee Circus situated in the car park before you choose your adventure. Don’t forget to bring a portable speaker to help set the vibe even more.

Tal Virtu Promenade: A country smoke spot Malta hides

Tal Virtu Promenade is tucked away in a cozy neighborhood in the city of Rabat. Here is a spot that I like to call the “Beverly Hills of Malta”. Tal Virtu Promenade is a country road dotted with villas, plenty of greenery and most importantly killer views overlooking the entire island.

Buskett Gardens

For those who prefer a more forested vibe, Buskett Gardens is Malta’s largest woodland area. Filled with orange trees, pine groves, and winding paths, this spot offers a cooler and greener atmosphere compared to the rest of the island.

It’s perfect for a chilled-out walk followed by a smoke in the shade. The gardens are also home to historical landmarks like Verdala Palace, giving the area a touch of charm and mystery. Just make sure to clean up after yourself and avoid starting a forest fire.

Exiles: Kick back, spark one

Exiles in Sliema is the perfect rocky beach where people go swimming year-round. When it’s hot, there is a perfect contrast between the hot limestone rock and the crispy cool sea. Here there are plenty of spots for you to lay down a towel, kick back and spark one.

Fun fact: The beach is called Exiles not because of the bar, but because in 1917 when refugees of the Russian revolution escaped to Malta (including a certain ballet dancer called Princess Nathalie Poutiatine). They were housed in Sliema and often swam at this location, which the locals named ta’ l-Exiles.

Smoke spots and so much more: Underground Guide Malta

These five are just a few of the spots that we love, for more consider grabbing our guide that locals wish you didn’t have — Underground Guide Malta which is 200+ pages of essential information you will need, especially if you’re on the search for smoke spots while here.
