The Monkeys Den will be landing in Malta this May for a series of recorded sets, and events.

On the 11th of May you can expect uplifting house, tech house, and techno at Gianpula Village, as the UK’s Monkeys Den take to the stage for Hot Sunset’s official summer opening party, alongside some of Malta’s hottest DJ’s.

The not so ordinary bunch will at first be debuting at a small exclusive party and recorded set, at Underground Sound’s office, along with another TBA event with The Riddle Club Series. But it’s their debut performance at Hot Sunset, that we’re most excited about.

We had a brief chat with the top monkey, Samira Henawy, about all the juicy details on the concept.

Drawing inspiration from her Chinese horoscope, the monkey. Samira created the concept of The Monkeys Den. She states

“We’ve kept things intimate in the UK editions, with a small capacity of around 100 people, fostering a close-knit and exclusive community”.

In their previous den events, they’ve hosted many upcoming acts in London, and Ipswich’s, electronic music scene, with fellow monkeys Angelle Joseph, and Nina Arya. One resident DJ, Mon, of The Monkeys Den even took part in Hannah Wants, DJ Competition and won. All of which have increased the demand for attendance.

It’s worth noting that Samira has also been involved in many successful events and festivals across the UK, having previously worked alongside Ellie Cocks, and the Paolo Francesco Bank Holiday takeover.

Joining Samira, will be Patrick Meeks, who’s expected to drop his fierce and flawless style of music that he’s well known for in the UK.

Additionally there will be a solid line-up of Maltese talent for the Hot Sunset opening including, Ramzi, Interstate, Black Five, Carlo Gerada, Dre, Conrad, Valhall, and Denzel Jo Armani back to back with Joseph Armani.

Samira’s music plan for the night is to do what she does best, crowd control. Her sets, are based on the vibe and feedback of those in attendance. So, between herself and Patrick, it’s safe to say that you can expect to remain on your feet and dancing for the duration of their time slots.

Join the monkey’s in the UK

The Monkeys Den arrival is much more than just rocking up to the hottest event of the Maltese summer. Her overall plans, alongside Underground Sound, is to open up international collaboration, that will offer an exchange of stages for Maltese DJ’s in the UK and vice-a-versa, with some of the UK acts that Samira works alongside.

This trip to Malta is most certainly just the start of what’s to come for 2024 and beyond.
