Ninja Kidsoul bares his soul in his on his latest single ‘Gap Shit’ that sees him team up with Agajon on Kabul Fire Records.
The track is a restlessly creative soulful jam, slicing vocal samples with playful horns, tight bass and an old school hip hop beat.
An impressive vocal range
‘Gap Shit’ is a perfect vehicle for Ninja Kidsoul’s impressive vocal range, versatile flow, peerless rhymes and ear for a hooky chorus. ‘Gap Shit’ is an example of how the pair, based in Germany work so well together musically.
Agajon has previously worked with British rappers Giggs and Jay Prince, and Canadian rapper Lou Phelps. This track delivers an unconventional J Dilla meets Madlib inspired beat, as Ninja Kidsoul’s vocal performance smoothly slips from rap into singing and back.
Committing to the moment
Lyrically, ‘Gap Shit’ represents a personal reflection on committing to the present moment. At its core ‘Gap Shit’ is about letting the ghosts of the past stay there while also not summoning future ones ahead of their time.
Ninja Kidsoul explains:
“Gap Shit is the approach to music from a place of complete freedom. Its base being the sonic bond that deepens the trust in each other to create what’s true to our essence.”
It’s his dual heritage which sets his music apart from so many of his contemporaries. Described as ‘one of the pioneers of the New German Soul’ by ARTE. His progressive leaning and global looking music has turned heads off the back of his COLORS session and performance at Montreux Jazz Festival in 2022.
Having taken time away from music to take care of his son, 2023 promises to be a musically rewarding year for the exceptional German-American artist.
Who is Ninja Kidsoul
Ninja Kidsoul was born to an American father and a German mother in the south of Germany. In his early years he was introduced to music by his grandmother to the soulful sounds of Motown and other musical icons. It was this inspiration that became the spark that has led him into a career of music.
Ninja caught the attention of music fans after his appearance on COLORS in 2016. However, in recent years he’s been preoccupied with fatherhood but now the German-American neo-soul artist is back with a bang with ‘Gap Shit’. The new track is masterfully produced by his long term artistic partner and producer Agajon.
