A fresh spore is in the air. Just in time for peak foraging season, the team behind the beloved Mushroom Map have released a dedicated app for Android and iOS called Sporecast – and it’s built for more than just liberty cap chasers.

Available now, Sporecast brings the online mushroom foraging companion into the palms of psychonauts, nature lovers, and mycophiles alike. With the same login and season pass syncing from your existing Mushroom Map account, users can jump right in with no fuss.

“This is the first iteration of something much bigger,” says creator Nick in a recent newsletter announcement. “Right now, I’m fleshing out species pages and building a map view for the growth forecast.”

Built for the field, not just the screen

Sporecast keeps the essential features users know and love from Mushroom Map: reliable growth forecasts, strain spotting, and timely updates about seasonal flushes. But the app goes further by integrating a cleaner UI for field use and streamlined bug reporting – a nod to the tight-knit forager community behind its growth.

“If you run into any bugs or have feature requests, I’d love to hear them,” Nick adds. “This is very much a community-led tool.”

A growing digital myco-culture

Mushroom Map has long been the go-to guide for liberty cap season in the UK and beyond, and Sporecast signals a shift from seasonal spreadsheet to a year-round platform for fungi enthusiasts. With added infrastructure and a roadmap for new features, the app opens the door to broader species tracking, geographic expansion, and potentially even community-driven reports.

If you’re planning to wander off-path this autumn, Sporecast might be your most useful companion – after your boots and a good eye for fungi, of course.
