7 Mouthwatering Restaurants in Valletta

From dumplings and brunch to Roman pinsas and ftiras, we’ve lined up 7 can’t miss restaurants in Valletta. Read below for full details.

1. Grano: classic Maltese restaurants in Valletta

Ah, the mighty ftira. This is Maltese bread tough enough to survive the elements of the Mediterranean. However, when freshly baked and treated with care and devotion, she rewards you.

That’s what the guys at Grano have done to the Maltese ftira: pulled pork heaven, mozzarella paired with mortadella, and – not to forget – the epic spicy chick. It’s a lunch-only location, so if you go too late, you’ll miss out on some of the delicacies. Expect a queue between 12-1 PM.

2. SU:N

SU:N is a Korean restaurant on Strait Street that fills your heart with joy, and your belly with a fat bowl of ramen. Sit inside in a place where it feels like Seoul or go onto the street where you can see curious passerby’s check out the restaurant, and wish they had a bowl of ramen for themselves.

Price is a bit higher, but worth it if you’re there between 6-8 PM. Their fried rice isn’t bad either.

3. Sally Port

Mamma mia che bella questa pizza!

Sally Port doesn’t complicate things that shouldn’t be complicated. Think of reasonably priced, quality pizza with a nice crispy crust. You’re salivating already.

Here you’ll find people throughout the day grabbing a cornetto, coffee or a buy-one-get-one-free Aperol Spritz’ during happy hour. It’s not the most touristic side of Lower Valletta and it’s totally underrated.

4. Brunch at TRiBE

TRiBE is a great place to meet up for lunch in Valletta. Inside is nice and cooled with A/C and outside there is plenty of space on their patio. They’ve certainly got a modern theme going on.

While it’s a bit on the expensive side, you get what you pay for. TRiBE is open all day to serve you veggie and vegan dishes. They serve a nice stack of pancakes too.

5. Drunken Dumpling (my favorite of all restaurants in Valletta)

Drunken Dumping is the perfect place for an authentic, succulent Chinese meal in Valletta. This is democracy manifest!

It’s a very straightforward joint – only a few dishes that are all tasty and good prices on large sized beers.

6. Casa Sotto Pizzeria

With a great location in the middle of Valletta, Casa Sotto makes Pinsas the Roman way for those who are a little more delicate than the rest. It’s a nice place off St. George’s square, so book in advance as it gets busy.

Consider this a fun little place to put down a few bottles of Italian wine too. Though a bit on the expensive side you won’t regret it.

7. Ħelu Manna & other gluten free restaurants in Valletta

Ħelu Manna Glutx is a bakery and breakfast/brunch/lunch place that sells croissants and Maltese baked goods, all gluten free. They even do the classic tuna ftira in GF mode.

Pick up the croissants in the morning when they are fresh and have them put either chocolate or pistachio inside. Eat under the AC or on this side street of Valletta.

Note that you can get gluten free options from TRiBE and the Cantonese spot Nan Yuan. Cassa Sotto also offers different grains that are less harmful for the gluten intolerants.
